SEO Web Design and Images

To many novices, SEO website development revolves around keywords and only keywords. While an extremely important part of SEO web design, it’s not the only technique that helps you get your medical website into the top of the search engine results.

Naming Your Images
When a search engine spider crawls a website, it’s looking for certain things that let it know if all the content on the page is related to the keyword or not. The name you give to your image can be an important factor in how these spiders view your website. Professional website designers now name all image files related to keywords for the page(s) they will appear on. This way, when the spider crawls the site, it sees keyword1.jpg and keyword2.jpg instead of img001.jpg and img002.jpg. Seeing the keyword appear in the image file name lets the spider know that it is:

  1. Related to the content on the page
  2. Not an attempt to display images unrelated to the page

ALT Text
To make websites more accessible to all people, the ALT text attribute was attached to image files so that programs that read content to the visitor can describe the picture that’s displayed on the screen. Like the filename given to the image, the description provided for the ALT text attribute is able to be seen by the search engine spiders, so while making your website accessible, you’re actually promoting SEO friendly website design techniques as well!
