Header Tags for SEO Friendly Medical Web Design

The way a website is formatted can have a large impact on its search engine optimization. SEO website designers take great care when using certain tags to help increase search engine rankings. One of the more simple SEO techniques they use is formatting text using the header tags.

The Header Tags Explained

The header tags format text used as a section heading on a web page. There are six different headings to choose from. The largest header is <h1> and the smallest is <h6>. The remaining headers fall in between these two.

Just as the <h1> header displays the largest text on a web page, it is also viewed by the search engine spiders as the most important of the header content. The <h1> tag should generally be used only once per page and should match the content of the title tag as closely as possible for the maximum effect.

Following the <h1> tag in importance according to the search engines is the <h2> tag. This is usually used for sub-headings throughout the web page. The content between these tags should contain some of your primary keywords and can even contain secondary keywords, but they should not be stuffed with keywords. The ultimate goal should be readability for the visitor.

The remaining tags don’t have as much influence over the search engines as the top two; however, they do help to organize your web pages and make them scannable. When viewers can easily scan a page for the information they’re looking for, they’re more likely to come back to your site when they need medical information.
