In 2008, Danny Dover of SEOMoz published his checklist for learning basic SEO. At the top of this list: Learn How to Build a Basic Website. This section includes learning how to write the code without a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver and how to use CSS to style your site without the use of tables.
It seems hard to disagree with him on this. In addition to his reputation as being an expert in web page optimization, his idea makes perfect sense. After all, how can you optimize your website if you don’t really know how to build it?
It might seem obvious that actually building a website is the first step in any site-related process, but this checklist serves as a reminder that the website, not the keywords, tags, etc. are the foundation. Building a solid website should be the first and foremost concern, particularly when creating a site for a medical practice—your patients place a high level of trust in you, and the first impression can either make or break it.
