Creative Introductions for a Better User Experience

When people talk about website usability, the conversation usually gravitates toward website usability best practices like minimizing Flash, easy navigation, and the proper use of images and colors. However, it’s not often that the topic of the website’s introductions comes up, even though it’s one of the most basic of all usability guidelines. After all, if your visitors don’t know that they’re on a medical web site, you haven’t done a good job designing your site.

 Creative Introductions
To explicitly tell visitors that they’re on a website for medical practices, there needs to be a pitch. The pitch tells them more than just the name, or header, would. It tells about the services offered, the qualifications of the medical professional, and any other information that would make them your patient over someone else’s.

But the pitch doesn’t have to be boring. The use of graphics, written content, and imagery goes a long way toward conveying to your visitors what exactly you’re providing to them. The pitch should use all of your creative juices to shout to your visitors exactly what you do and why this is important to them. This makes them stick around to read the other content on your site.

 The Pitch and User Experience
Aside from telling visitors that they’re on a medical web site, the pitch keeps the visitor interested. Instead of asking, “Who is this person and what do they do?”, they’re asking for more. This experience keeps visitors engaged in a website and coming back for more.
